quarter to run choir workshops with the choir, and to break the back of their new repertoire. The bulk of the first quarter was spent learning new repertoire and preparing for the arrival of Mr Dry, but the choir did perform at various school functions such as the Confirmation Service and other church services as well as Grandparents' Day. The second quarter began almost immediately with the first of two annual Two Schools concerts, hosted initially by Hilton College in their indoor centre, as a curtain-raiser to the Hilton/Michaelhouse derby weekend. With over 1000 people in attendance, the event was a huge success for the choir, who impressed the audience with their powerful sound and infectious energy. They performed a variety of traditional southern African songs and rounded their programme off with a rousing rendition of the South African struggle classic Weeping . The quarter ended with Michaelhouse hosting the second of the Two Schools concerts, this time in partnership with St Mary’s Kloof. Apart from their now established traditional music programme,

T
he Michaelhouse Chapel Choir consists of 55 auditioned boys from E to A Block. The choir rehearses three times a week, and their chief function is to musically support the spiritual worship of the school in chapel services and various school events. 2024 has been a year of change and significant growth for the choir. In the first quarter, the choir was directed by Dr Carika de Swardt, who filled in the role before the new Head of Music and Choirmaster, Mr Gareth Dry, joined Michaelhouse for the second quarter. Mr Dry travelled to Michaelhouse twice during the first
