VISUAL ART

Head of Department: Mrs Jenni Clinton-Parker Staff: Mrs Lieschen Harrison, Mr Michael Kimber, Mr Elton Mlotshwa AWARDS Half-Colours: Riley van Schoor, Harry Witherspoon, Andreas Papadopoulos, Jonathan Boesak, Jacques le Vieux, Jordan Rice Other awards: Johnathan Baber, Jordan Ratsey, Henry Walters ooking back over the year, the thing that stands out is that the spirit of camaraderie and friendship that had to some extent waned over the Covid years has returned to the Art School. The boys are connecting across Blocks once again, and are again encouraging and challenging each other in a positive, brotherly manner. Boys and staff are also working together to bring out the best of both groups. It has been a good year. The Schlesinger Theatre Foyer Gallery held several exhibitions as well. The year began with an exhibition of 2023 A Block art, which was replaced by an exhibition of current seniors’ work. The Michaelmas quarter saw an exhibition of work from the whole school. The art year came to a finale with the Matric Exhibition Opening Gala on 10 October. A few of our boys entered the national 2025 Making Marks competition, and Henry Walters was awarded a fourth place, a commendation and special mention for his efforts at creating a portrait of his brothers and himself in a Vincent van Gogh style. The matric exhibition was opened by Sarah Lovejoy, a local sculptor who had worked with the A Block art boys during their B Block year. She was delighted to see how they had developed as artists and commended them for their authenticity in dealing with the topic of the IEB Visual Art examination, Truth vs Fiction . What stood out for her was how each boy interpreted the topic through his own eyes. The matric examiner also commended the boys on their technical drawing skill and conceptual development. The boys can be as proud of their
