FLIPPING BOOK CHRONICLE 2024

in the orchestra and the all-important war-cry band. He and Chad Abrahams were key players in a very promising U15A basketball side. Having completed the C Block Journey, the C Blockers had a fantastic year, contributing to the overall energy and humour of the House, and never seeming to have a dull moment. The camaraderie that this group has developed is phenomenal. They continue to make us proud. Nkanyezi Ndlovu and Matthew Samuels were both members of the U16A basketball team. Cameron Jones was a member of the first golf team that dominated Hilton College in this year’s Douglas Cup. Robert Short has really grown in physical stature, and this paid off for him in canoeing. We look forward to seeing him really dominate the water next year. Adam Collins was a member of the U16A rugby side. No one will forget the emotional finish to the season as they clinched a one-point victory over our dear rivals down the road. Elliot Springate played U16A hockey and first team water polo. Elliot is proving himself to be one of the best goalkeepers in the country. Having made the KZN water polo team this year, national representation is on the horizon for him. B Block had an important year, with their end-of-year exams contributing highly to their applications to universities internationally. The boys can also be proud of their contributions to Pascoe, assisting the A Block with various duties and activities, and being a group that achieved highly in all aspects of school life. Daniel French continued to excel on the public speaking and debating stage, earning provincial representation. Daniel Aissing’s skill as a scrumhalf earned him a spot in the Sharks’ U17B side. Radhesh Jhilmeet has established himself as one of the most consistent bowlers in the school. His contribution to the First XI as well as provincial cricket teams was astonishing. Luke Mitchell represented the First XI cricket side, too, but his biggest contribution was in goals for the First XI soccer side. Luke was so successful that he not only earned provincial selection but also captained his KZN U19 team. Keagan Elliot was strong in the pool, establishing himself as a key member of the first water polo side. He was deservedly selected to captain the side in 2025 and also earned a place in the KZN U18B side. A Block has always been a tight-knit group, eager to take on any challenge. Having started their Michaelhouse careers as “Covid Cacks”, the A Block of 2024 is a group I am proud to be a part of. Tshiamo Boikhutso and Ashton Marais exemplified excellence on the athletic front, both in interschool and provincial races. Ayabonga Shivane and Johan Weyers excelled academically, with Ayabonga placing first in the grade in a term, and Johan achieving the top mark for Mathematics and Afrikaans in the June and trial exams. Angelo Nkosi lead the Christian Fellowship committee and was captain of the very successful first team football. Lwazi Dlamini formed part of the successful war-cry committee, leading the school in supporting various first teams on important occasions. Kungalo Somhlahlo finished his tenure in the Michaelhouse Choir and Midlands Youth Choir, being a role model to all younger boys in his commitment. Stephan Macamo played in the internationally recognized Michaelhouse Competition Marimba Band, being part of the team that won an international competition. Luthando

Buthelezi was the E Block prefect who exemplified the values of compassion and courage, also playing First XV rugby as prop. Noah Satram played in the first squash team as one of the highest seeds at Michaelhouse. Noah was also a fundamental pillar in the happiness of the A Block group, never ceasing to make us smile, even in times of complete disaster. I am extremely proud of the man that Chishala Kalenga has become, never failing to put the happiness of others above the needs of himself, and playing a pivotal role in the House’s success. Pascoe would not be the welcoming and happy place that it is today without his kind and caring character. Thank you, Chishala, for the incredible service you have contributed not only to Pascoe but to the wider Michaelhouse community. You have left an amazing mark that others can only strive to achieve. 2025 promises to be a phenomenal year for Pascoe. The energy in the House is palpable. I am extremely confident in the leaders that have been appointed for the upcoming year, as well as the A Block for next year. You gents have the opportunity to take Pascoe to even greater heights. Make the most of that opportunity. My time at Michaelhouse has been filled with more ups than downs. I have grown from a tiny, curly-haired boy into a fine specimen of a man… I’ve heard people say. I cannot take full credit for my development at Michaelhouse, though. None of it would have been possible without the guidance and mentorship of those who came before me. I would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Pascoe. In particular, I would like to thank Mr Ngcobo for putting his heart and soul into Pascoe: you have always been supportive of me and all the boys in the House. I don’t believe we would be where we are as a House if it wasn’t for your empathetic and compassionate approach to leading us. Siyabonga kakhulu, Fuze. As the night draws near, we look to the challenges of a brand new day. To those who remain, we challenge you to learn from our mistakes and to strive always to be better than we were. Use the foundation we have built to reach even greater heights and make Pascoe a beacon of excellence. To the class of 2024, always remember where you come from and the bonds that tie you to this House. No matter where life takes you, you will always be men of Pascoe – brothers bound by shared experiences, triumphs and lessons learned. Carry the spirit of Pascoe with you, and let it guide you as you shape your future.
