William Aylward was a part of the U15A water polo team and was selected for the U16C KZN hockey side despite being in D Block. Ethan Makamure showed his talent in U15A soccer, while Banembo Mkhize featured for the U15A rugby team. Trent Buckley earned a place in the Midlands Youth Choir, and Nivan Royappen was selected to participate in the KZN provincial championship for debating. Duncan Roberts was recognized as the school’s top junior paddler, and both Riley Muir and Nathan Simons contributed significantly to the U15A cricket team. Our C Blockers, too, had an incredible year. Notoriously known as the Journey year, many often see it as the in-between year – when you are no longer a junior but not quite a senior. To me, it is incredible to see how every year, after completing the Journey, the boys who come back have a refined maturity and distinct confidence, which is the most promising sign that any head of house, tutor or housemaster can see in the boys who will soon be seniors in the House. Watching these boys come into their own has been incredible, and it was accompanied by a litany of successes. Tyron Kaufmann played for the U16A football team and was part of the First XI’s FA Cup-winning football side. He also performed for the competition marimba band. Henry Love was a versatile athlete, excelling in U16A cricket, hockey and football, while representing KZN in tennis and playing first team tennis. Nicola Salamousas stood out in U16A basketball and rugby, being selected for KZN U16A rugby and Rugby South Africa’s

Jack Campbell played for the U14A cricket team and was also a key player in U14A hockey, alongside Kingsly Oldrieve, Evan McMurray and Lindo Nene. Kwando Ngidi excelled in U14A basketball and U14A rugby, and Andonis Salamousas also contributed to U14A basketball. Maddon Elliot showcased his versatility in U14A water polo and U14A football, where he was joined by Kwando Ngidi and Lindo Nene. Jack Campbell and Lindo Nene further distinguished themselves by representing KZN hockey, whereas James Moodley earned recognition for his achievements in KZN squash D Block can be a tricky time for boys to navigate as they are without their Cops for the first time. It is a year in which boys are encouraged to leave their comfort zones and begin spreading their wings. Although this year’s group of boys naturally got up to the odd bit of mischief, they started to develop into fine Michaelhouse men. The D Block year is also filled with many decisions, such as choosing the subjects you will take to matric. It is vital to think hard about this choice and make decisions based not on what subjects you feel can get you into the best degrees but rather the subjects you most enjoy and have an aptitude for. The boys demonstrated outstanding achievements across various fields. Connor Wilson was selected to represent South Africa at the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Competition and served as the U15A water polo captain.
