We are a diverse group of boys but all united as a family under the roof of the oldest House in our great school. Founders is not just a place where boys spend nights, but rather a safe space, a haven and home to all 60 boys. We had the honour of welcoming 14 new faces into our Founders family at the beginning of the year. Although the boys were wide-eyed and nervous about having to live with 13 other boys F
for the first time in their lives, they quickly found their feet and their place in the House. The E Block group of 2024 is one that is really connected – they finished the year strongly and are truly living the Founders dream. Over the course of the year a number of them achieved well in the classroom, on the sports field and in the cultural sphere of the school. Campbell and Cole Freeman both placed in the top ten academically each term. Henco van Loggerenberg, Nick Goeller and Josh Nombewu all represented the U14A rugby team. Josh also played U14A basketball along with Nick and Max D’Aubrey, and both Nick and Max played A-team water polo. D Block is notorious for being the hardest year at Michaelhouse because the boys no longer have their cops to mentor and guide them. But this year the Founders D Blockers defied that notion emphatically. They not only added value to the school but also in the House, lending a helpful hand to the E Blockers. The D Block boys also saw great achievements on and off the sports field. Solethu Ngxola, Simphiwe Kona and Valentino Zedde were all part of the junior marimba band, with Valentino named as the band captain. Griffon Erasmus regularly placed in the top five of the Block academically. Both Callum Fly and Rex Wardlaw played U15A cricket. Rex was the captain of the team and also played in the U15A rugby team. Both Ben Sevel and 175
