The first quarter was, as always, a busy one, with the schools’ league, the KZN pre-season tournament and the highly anticipated St Andrew’s School festival. Many of our players participated in the pre-season tournament and summer league, gaining valuable match experience early in the year. The annual tour to Bloemfontein for the prestigious St Andrew’s festival is a standout event on our calendar. As the premier school squash festival in South Africa, it attracts top teams from across the country, providing an intense level of competition. Michaelhouse is one of the few schools fortunate enough to field both a first and second team, allowing more of our players to test themselves at the highest schoolboy level. The festival is always

A major achievement this year was the first team’s winning the KZN school-selection tournament, earning the honour of representing the province at the SA Top Schools Squash Tournament, hosted by Epworth in Pietermaritzburg. This is an elite event, and the team must be congratulated on reaching the finals. The fourth quarter is traditionally a quieter period for squash, but our stayers team had the opportunity to compete in the annual Menlopark Stayers Tournament. Despite being a young side, they performed exceptionally well, winning four of their five fixtures – a promising sign for the future of Michaelhouse squash.
