FIRST XV RUGBY
T
he 2024 First XV season was one of some incredible highs and some extremely tough lows. The effort that the team put into their pre-season, practices and matches cannot be questioned. We have just had to accept that, in sport and life, things do not always work out in your favour. It was also a tremendous compliment to Michaelhouse and the team to play on four old boys’ days, excluding our own. In reflecting, I have chosen to break down the season into the following three categories: wins, learnings (not losses) and memories made. WINS Although we may be a little disappointed to end with a 50% win ratio, the seven victories were outstanding achievements
including the SA Schools winger, was a result to be proud of.
BISHOPS (37-17) – it was only our fifth victory in 22 attempts against a school that has produced 35 Springboks compared to our four. And on their 175th anniversary, too.
ST ANDREW'S (34-15) – our team bounced back after a couple of disappointing losses to retain the Currey-Clark Cup against one of our longest-standing rivals.
NORTHWOOD (24-22) – a fine victory on Meadows after a two-week holiday against a very powerful, well-drilled team who were unbeaten at the time.
KEARSNEY (34-19) – to play at Kings Park in a game that doubled up as a Sharks’ Schools trial was a real treat for the boys. 159
WESTVILLE (25-17) – to win on a hot and windy day away from home against a well-prepared and extremely athletic team,
