the children. In an effort to mitigate this challenge the MCPT runs a transport subsidy programme for children in grades 1 to 3 at Shea O’Connor and Esiphetwini Sendezi. After Grade 3 the foundation is set and the parents are able to continue and manage their own transport fees. and provide necessary support. Early Childhood Development Centers exist in many different forms in our communities, some are just care centers run by people with no formal training, and others are functional ECD centers staffed by teachers with the appropriate qualifications. Our intention is to evaluate all the ECD centers that serve our 16 footprint schools and develop a programme for ensuring that they meet the required standards with properly qualified personnel. CONCLUDING COMMENTS The Michaelhouse Community Partnership Trust was founded in 2000 essentially to enable boys to engage in community service. We have now grown into a fully fledged outreach programme with aggressive goals and focused projects supported by Michaelhouse and companies/individuals in the private sector. Again our overriding objective is to partner with our 16 footprint schools to improve their functionality as places of learning by focusing on improved teaching, better results, teacher development and leadership through training and mentorship as well as fixing infrastructure where it is absolutely essential, and the dignity of the school is impacted. MCPT hopes, through the MOU with the DoE MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal to enhance collaboration so that the department will come to the party and assist with improvements beyond the scope of the MCPT.

of which community and education are essential components. We know we have to up our game so that Michaelhouse will be regarded as one of the benchmarks of independent school outreach programmes, demonstrating best practice in all we do. In this regard, at the conclusion of 2022, the trustees and interested parties (17 in total) held a strategic workshop at which our ten key focus areas were debated and concluded with project champions and performance measures attached to each. We will be presenting progress in respect of our strategy at our annual Old Boy gatherings as well as at our parents meetings.
