The Chronicle 2022

Our first and second stayers teams participated in the A and B divisions respectively. Our first stayers team grew from strength to strength over the tournament; delivering some excellent performances in victories over Saheti (58-9), Kingswood College (65-40), Trichardt School, Mozambique (44-23) and Clifton College (58-42). We unfortunately, came unstuck in the quarter-final against St David’s (40-45) but redeemed ourselves with victories over St John’s College (63-25) and St Alban’s College (45-39) to finish fifth overall. Our second stayers team also delivered some superb results winning all of their group matches and making it to the semi-finals of the B division. They narrowly lost to Kearsney College (30-35) in the semi-final before beating St Benedict’s College in the third/fourth play-off to finish in third place in the B division. Our U14A and B teams attended the St Andrew’s College Eastern Cape Experience Festival at the start of November. The A team played a total of five matches, winning four and losing one. The one match they lost was against St Stithians College (29-35) who we played after the controversy of being pitted against the St Andrew’s College U15A team (a team we were not made aware was their U15A team until after the match and who we only ended up losing to by two points). The B team played a total of four matches, winning two and losing two. The spirit of these teams was excellent, and the boys made big strides in their individual skill levels. The festival was also invaluable preparation for the U15A St John’s Tournament in February and we are excited to see how they would progress in this prestigious tournament. Boys and coaches alike have thoroughly enjoyed this busy and productive year on the courts. We are very privileged to have experienced coaches on our teaching staff and have enjoyed the services of a number of top external coaches. I would like to thank Bandile Nsele, Mondli Mkhize, Steven Sliedrecht and Langalethu Mbhele for their excellent efforts this year. A special thank you to Mr Ayanda Duma who leaves us after years of dedicated service to the basketball club. We also pay our heart felt respects to the family of the late Bongani Khumalo, who we learned had tragically passed in November. Bongani was our

first team coach in 2017 and 2018. Given the heights our club has reached in 2022 we will have a tough act to follow in 2023.
