FLIPPING BOOK CHRONICLE 2024

And now to the police, the good cop, bad cop duo of Mr Gittens, namely the bad cop – who was yesterday likened to a butternut due to his new hairstyle – and Mr Ncamani, the so called good cop. You both have had such a significant impact on the school. Despite the occasional differing in opinions between us, I firmly believe that you have brought the school out of very dark days. Many won’t see the impact that you have had now but one day, when we come back, that change will bring us all the greatest satisfaction in knowing that our school was the pioneer for positive transformation in schools. Then to Mr Clark, the biggest mnumzane of them all. A man of many hidden special talents – namely his singing, which had us all in tears at his performance at the Two Schools concert earlier this year. Not heartfelt tears but tears of laughter. I’m only joking, Mr Clark; your performance was excellent. Then your dance moves, which left us all speechless at our matric dance. I would put money on you beating anyone sitting here at a dance-off. Sir, you have been a pillar of strength for the Michaelhouse community and have taken the school to heights that nobody thought were possible. To the school prefects, and Luke in particular. You guys have given your all for Michaelhouse and have set and enforced a very high standard for the boys. You can all be proud of the work you have put in to make Michaelhouse the best school

in the country.

Then finally, to my mom, dad, brother Trezeguet and sister Vashti. We have seen many dark days, but here we all are today. Mom and dad, you guys went out of your way to make this all possible. No gift in this life will ever be better than the opportunity you have afforded me to attend this great school. As I conclude my speech, just a word to the A Blockers. Thank you all for the most incredible five years of my life. I will forever cherish all the laughs and cries that we have shared together. You guys have stuck by me from the very start, from when I was the boy who felt a little displaced in a foreign environment, to where we are right now, at our last Speech Day. I wish you all the very best for this final period of our schooling journey and I urge you all to make the most of it and not wish the time away. The legacy we leave behind means nothing if we don’t take anything from this school. We all leave here with a family, and I am proud to be a part of the Michaelhouse family and I really do hope that I have left a piece of myself here at Michaelhouse.

So for the very last time as a Michaelhouse boy: thank you, Michaelhouse.
