With the continued support of our dedicated coaches, players and supporters, the game has made significant strides, especially with the historic victory of our first team in the FA Cup. Soccer remained a dominant force across various age groups and teams throughout the season. Our A-team squads were fortunate to participate in both the prestigious St David’s and St Stithians tournaments, where we garnered invitations to other top-level school competitions. Throughout the season, we maintained a strong presence, with up to 30 teams participating in fixtures on any given weekend. Overall, we played 196 games, winning 91, drawing 48 and losing 59, maintaining an impressive 70% non-loss record. While this might not have been a vintage year, our consistency across multiple teams reaffirmed our sport as the most popular one at Michaelhouse. The crowning achievement of the season was the First XI’s historic victory in the Pietermaritzburg FA Cup. This was a first for Michaelhouse and a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players and coaching staff. Despite the challenges of provincial trials and selections, we were thrilled that six of our boys were selected for the KZN teams. Jason Brufau, Luke Mitchell, Alex Vries, Gordon Deutscher and Tristan Roques made the U18A side, and Chase Maskell the U16A side. This accomplishment not only highlighted the quality of talent in the Michaelhouse programme but also set a standard for future seasons. A special acknowledgment is due to Mr Chris van der Berg, our former head coach. Mr van der Berg’s unwavering commitment to soccer at Michaelhouse has been a pillar of our success over the years.
