There was again a huge amount of motivation going into the season after the excitement of 2023, and the boys kept up their hard work to be as prepared as possible. The strength and conditioning programme implemented in 2020 continued to deliver rewards not only in terms of results but also in building confidence and reducing injury counts. We regularly fielded 23 or 24 teams and only dipped below 20 at the back end of the season, and that was more because our opponents could not match us for numbers. The general trend of building the boys up has continued. We often struggle in the junior age groups but are very competitive by the time the boys reach the open age group as they develop physically and in confidence. Our 35% winning ratio in the U14s compared to 73% in the opens clearly demonstrates this. We hosted a voluntary training camp over the half term of the first quarter and 55 boys attended it, which demonstrates the boys’ commitment to preparing for the season and their desire to achieve success.
