of the aquatics programme was clearly visible in the record breaking relay events and personal bests and records for multiple athletes. The electric atmosphere was evident on the banks of the school dam for the open-water event and transferred undeterred to the swimming pool for the evening event. Our guest of honour was Mrs Phillipa Bryden as the mother of our swimming captain Ben Bryden. She presented all awards to our winners on the night, with Farfield turning out the eventual winners. The age-group winners – U14 Maddon Elliot, U15 Jed Reilly, U16 Kyle Heyns, U17 Tristan Atkinson and U19 Reece Rezac – were deserving victors, each winning their groups by comfortable margins. Each also set personal bests in at least one of their races on the night. Several also broke individual and relay records along the way.

ichaelhouse had a busy yet fulfilling calendar in 2024. The team took part in several of its regular annual fixtures and all-round improved on previous results. The team had a multitude of participants at the Midmar Mile. Kyles Heyns once again came up trumps with an impressive sub-25-minute mile in tough conditions. The swimmers put forward a valiant effort at the Top Ten Gala at Kearsney College. The team was depleted by injury but the boys ensured that Michaelhouse had a competitive swimmer in every event. At times swimmers swam four races in a row to ensure the school was well represented.
