FLIPPING BOOK CHRONICLE 2024

The event formerly known as Culture Week started with a collaborative concert on 13 June, which featured the choirs and bands of Michaelhouse and St Mary’s DSG, and was well supported despite the chilly weather. The choirs of Cordwalles and Jabula Combined School also sang. On Sunday 16 June the theatre hosted musicians Derrick Gripper and Balake, and local actor Cuba Ikaneng performed his play Bafazi Land . The theme for this year’s competitions was Stars of the Morning, which could be interpreted in any artistic way. The winning Houses for the different disciplines were announced at an awards ceremony on 20 July. The week ended up being fiercely contested, especially among Housemasters who were keenly interested in the final results and how to plan better for next year. The overall Culture Cup winners for 2024 were Founders, followed very closely by Mackenzie in second and Tatham in third.

HOUSE CHALLENGE 2024

Written by Dr Carika de Swardt

T

he second House Challenge, which includes interhouse competitions for all cultural programmes as well as some sports, happened from 17 to 20 June. The participation and standard of performances in the various competitions was much improved on the efforts of 2023. The combined points for the week contributed to the race for the Todd Cup, which was to be awarded at the end of the year, so the boys took the competitions far more seriously than before.

All the prize winners and achievers in the cultural programmes received awards at the first annual Cultural Awards evening.
