which they created. They were challenged to put themselves in the shoes of the MPC members and recommend changes to the repo rate as per the SARB’s monetary policy. This was a valuable learning experience for them, and we hope to continue competing in this Challenge for many years to come. I am pleased to report that the 2021 Economics A Block boys

produced our best matric Economics results ever. An incredible 62.3% of the boys who wrote achieved a distinction. Our top academic achiever overall was Karl Rindfleisch achieving a remarkable 96% which placed him in the IEB’s top 1% of candidates in the subject. I wish to thank Mrs Win De Wet, Mrs Riette White, Mr Carl Bezuidenhout for preparing our matric boys so thoroughly in their matric year.

Michaelhouse. The primary objective going forward is to give the subject a comprehensive vision and mission statement by 2023. One that prepares the young engineers at Michaelhouse for an ever-changing future. One of the department’s goals is to develop both civil and mechanical projects for all grades that focus on real-world scenarios. This must include the Michaelhouse campus, its surrounding community and the importance of sustainability. Learners are motivated when practical tasks are not merely hypothetical scenarios, but have the potential for real-life implementation and impact.

With Mr Pieterse heading overseas, Mr Evan Mickleburgh and Mr Garth Quaite assumed the role and responsibility as custodians of the subject, one they are both incredibly passionate about.
