The Chronicle 2022

Sekatle and Xihluke Marhule were versatile performers. Their dramatic monologues about uprisings during the 80s to having us in stitches about breakfast being a scam earned them the full confidence and enthusiasm of the audience. Reuben Baldry and David Nienaber executed a compelling performance of Beckett’s End Game which is a challenging piece of literature. Michael Vincent’s portrayal and interpretation of a gangster from Peaky Blinders was convincing. Dakalo Nonge was successful in persuading us as the defence attorney from The Trial of OJ Simpson . The C Block year began with the drama residency as the boys were plunged into the depths of performance with seasoned actor Vaneshran Arumugam. They worked with him for a week to create a performance from scratch which was then performed for the school. At the start of a boy’s drama journey in C Block

they are fortunate to work with a performer and have this amazing learning experience.

We are overjoyed to be able to attend theatre productions again and took advantage of this opportunity by attending the famous ventriloquist Conrad Koch’s production at the Mandela Capture Site and a physical theatre piece by the Flatfoot Dance Company. Among some of the other productions that the boys watched was a performance of The Caucasian Chalk Circle at St Anne’s. In 2021 we welcomed the introduction of a drama scholarship for a boy entering in E Block. We congratulate Thomas Ries for being awarded this scholarship for 2023 and look forward to seeing this talented young man on the stage.
