Kian Moses, Chase Strathmore and Alex Vries are to be commended for their commitments beyond the playing fields and classrooms. Chase was an enthusiastic member of the scuba diving club. Alex was a member of the following musical ensembles: Competition Marimba Band, Jazz Band, Junior Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble and Orchestra. Kian participated in two plays throughout 2022: A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Birds . B Block is always a year of trials and tribulations. The pressure is on from the get-go academically as year-end applications for universities open. The B Block of McCormick were an incredibly strong set of academic scholars with no hesitation to put the hours in behind the books. Along with this they achieved highly commendable sporting and cultural involvement. First and second team sportsmen were many. Theo Apteker played first team water polo, and first team soccer alongside Jason Lawrence. Both represented the provincial soccer team, Jason as a goalkeeper and Theo as a centre back; and both were

awarded honours for soccer. Jason was also the goalkeeper for the first hockey XI. Bradley de Klerk, Liam Tibshraeny, Erich van Zyl and Nicholas Pitt all played second team hockey together in the 2022 winter season. Otsi Maphosa had an amazing rugby season scoring impressive tries and this led to his signing at an international sporting agency that will aid him in playing rugby in America after his matric year. Jaden Adam completed the K1 Fish River Canoe Marathon. Kofi Asumaning and Samora Apaa both played second team basketball. Anesu Chasi was chosen as a member of the stayers basketball team and is hoping to play first team basketball during his A Block year. The academic front is where the B Block boys dominated. Theo Apteker and Kofi Asumaning compete against one another for the position of first in the Block. Both have been awarded Academic honours and will continue to compete against one another in their final year at Michaelhouse. Both of these boys, along with Nicolas Pitt who was also a top ten academic, are TARPs. Nicholas was awarded Academic colours. Anesu Chasi achieved an aggregate of 70% year round, while Liam Tibshraeny achieved an aggregate of 80% throughout the year. Samora Apaa received an aggregate of 80% for both Economics and Geography. Well done to these boys on their academic effort during 2022. Culturally a lot was achieved by this year’s B Blockers. Theo Apteker received half colours for service; Nicholas Pitt received half colours for music and was a key member of the Jazz Band. Jaden Adam
