I will cherish and reminisce about the time spent with the fine men of Ralfe, and I look forward to future encounters with all of them, where we will share our memories made at Michaelhouse. Our time here will have a special place in our hearts for the rest of our lives and we will certainly miss the laughs and the times that we spent at Michaelhouse.

MCCORMICK

On the cultural front Remofilwe Khoale accumulated enough service points to qualify for half-colours; Nkateko Mathebula, Nkgwete Tlailane and Dimo Papadopoulos were all members of the Junior Marimba Band. McCormick’s D Blockers constantly filled the corridor with laughter and chatter. They are a Block with great potential, and it can be said with certainty that they will reach this full potential by the time they walk down Warriors’ Walk. They attained some impressive sporting achievements such as Brian Brits being selected to play U15A basketball, alongside Araf El-Maamry and Tinashe Simelane, who managed to score a staggering ten tries in his U15C rugby season. Thabo Mashego scored what was deemed goal of the season against St Stithians in the finals of the Inanda U15A Cup. Luke Marks captained the school chess team. Many boys achieved their academic goals and more. Thabo Mashego got his highest aggregate thus far at Michaelhouse; Araf El-Maamry achieved an 81% aggregate in the third quarter. Takudzwa Ngorima consistently achieved top 15 places in the Block. Luke Marks achieved 80% and over throughout the year and was a TARP for the first half of 2022. Andreas Papadopoulos achieved an 85% aggregate. Culturally the D Block were extremely active this year. Ashton McCormick and Luke Marks were both members of the choir; Takudzwa completed both his second and third grades for guitar while Jordan Rice was an active member of the deep-sea fishing society. Brian Brits sang three solos in the musical production, The Signs . Our C Blockers are a talented set of boys. They boast top academic achievers as well as a strong group of high performance sportsmen. They bring an incredible energy to the House along with their constant achievements across various spheres. Dylan Noach, Alex Vries and Aphiwe Shilembe all played U16A rugby. Aphiwe and Dylan both made it to the final round of the U16 Grant Khomo Week trials and Aphiwe was selected to play for the U16A Sharks team. Aphiwe also received the U16 Player of The Season award at the annual rugby dinner. Christopher Angel represented the Michaelhouse first golf team this year and the U16A hockey XI. Alex Vries played for the first soccer XI while Akhona Mchunu played both U16A basketball and soccer. Their academics were strong too. Olungaka Sefara achieved the highest aggregate for Mathematics in his class this year. Dylan Noach placed in the top ten year round and was a member of TARPs. Letlhogonolo

The House has been finding its feet in the school since then. Considering how busy the school is as an entity itself, it’s very difficult to find the right groove. That being said, McCormick is finally placing a firm foothold within the naturally occurring hierarchy with great performances in inter House events. The boys all contributed to the House in their own way. I believe that is where McCormick differs from other Houses. There is no discrimination towards an academic by a sportsman, no discrimination towards a sportsman by a cultural achiever and so forth. The E Block of 2022 were exemplary as Cacks. They rarely faltered in any of their many responsibilities and brought their own fresh breath of life into the House. They grew immensely as a group this year and have started to lay the foundations for their careers at Michaelhouse and as men of McCormick. The E Block boasted sportsmen who excelled. Matthew Hunter played U14A cricket and hockey and was selected to represent the Inland team. Lee-Roy Mochan played U14A rugby and soccer; Willow Yeowart was U14B soccer captain. Nkgwete Tlailane played U14A basketball and rugby while Keegan Pattenden played U14A hockey. Nkateko Mathebula was U14A soccer captain and a member of the U14A basketball team. Academically they were commendable with Remofilwe Khoale improving his mathematics mark by 30%, from 60% to 90%. Lee-Roy Mochan achieved an 80% aggregate. Timothy Bokaba obtained the highest mid-year examination mark for geography as did Rhys Watson for history. Dimo Papadopoulos was placed in top set Mathematics and Keegan Pattenden joined the ranks of the top ten academics in the Block. M
