of the year, the E Blockers have shown that they possess a variety of talents and have proved their worth as men of Michaelhouse. Rendani Nonge represented the U14A cricket team whilst also achieving great results in the classroom. Jake Mcdonald, Jack Stevenson, and Max Oliva also achieved some excellent academic results. Jess Webber should be commended for his waterpolo achievements. He made the KwaZulu-Natal U14 waterpolo team as a non-travelling reserve. Jack Stevenson was one of the key members of the debating team, receiving numerous best speaker awards whilst Corban Chellan was selected as a member of the Midlands Youth Choir and wowed the audience with his talents at the inter-House music competition. D Block is the beginning of one’s independence at Michaelhouse as you no longer have a Cop watching over you and it was good to see how these boys have matured over the course of the year. These boys have contributed immensely to the academic success of West especially Roelof Rossouw, Mark Conway and Luvuyo Tsibani who were TARPs and regularly placed in the top ten in the Block. Boitumelo Motsepe did exceptionally well academically, and Franco Bocking added much value as a member of the Jazz Band and the choir. C Block is a year where you begin to understand your identity as an individual at Michaelhouse. The group were a lively bunch of closely knit boys with diverse talents who were always willing to contribute to any aspect of life in the House. The group did well across the board with some impressive achievements. On the sports field, Patrick Lambert represented the U16A cricket and hockey XIs. Patrick also earned a few caps for the first hockey team. Jack Hughes was a member of the first sevens team and played for the U16A cricket side. Joshua Southwood was also a key member of the U16A cricket team. LJ Mooi captained the U16A basketball side and Richard Grant was a valued member of the team. West has a strong canoeing tradition and many of the C Block boys excelled this year. These boys continued to shine academically and Patrick Lambert must be congratulated on being a TARP and finishing the year in the top five. We had a strong group of B Block boys. Special mention must be made of Leo Muziva who represented both the first XV and VII rugby teams, earning half colours for rugby. Dalitso Simwinwa played first team basketball, achieving half colours.

Housemaster: Mr Ian Crawford Assistant Housemaster: Miss Marcel Cornelius House Tutors: Miss Cheron McConnell, Mr Sihle Mabaso, Mr Michael Sevenoaks E Block Tutor: Miss Riette White Interns: Mr Linda Mabuza, Mr Mthunzi Mdunge Housemother: Ms Sindisiwe Mnikathi Head of House: Samuel Berchowitz House Prefects: Reuben Baldry, Jeremy Foss, Joshua Haswell, David Nienaber, Michael Vincent amongst the Blocks. We were faced with many highs and lows during the year. It is during tough times that I have come to appreciate the camaraderie and brotherhood that are characteristic of our House. The prefects have led by example, ensuring that each boy feels he has a place within the West family while maintaining a high level of respect among the boys. They were helpful in ensuring that the E Blockers adapted to the hugely different environment that they had come into. The West House motto of honesty, integrity and respect plays an important role in our daily lives and is something that we will live with forever. The success of West this year could not have been achieved without the mentorship of Mr Crawford and his team of tutors whose approachable nature provided all boys with mentors who were always available to help. Their constant presence and assistance played a huge part in the successful running of the House; always offering a helping hand for personal, academic, admin or any other issues that the boys may have been experiencing. I remember arriving as an E Blocker with my oversized blazer walking up the stairs into my new home and feeling anxious about the weeks ahead. I could never have imagined how much the West culture would shape my time here and mould me into who I am today, and I am pleased to report that the E Block has not only survived their first year but have excelled. Over the course T he focus for West this year was to promote a friendly environment for all boys in the House. To this end, the prefects did an excellent job in maintaining fair discipline
