The Chronicle 2022

these are the things that will remain with them for the rest of their lives and that is what Michaelhouse is all about. I am very proud of how far each of them has come. Matt Stanistreet played second team squash while Graydon Leslie played A team cricket and hockey and also went on to represent his province for hockey. Graydon also went on the tennis tour to Sun City. Cameron Schwegmann played A team basketball. D Block is always a challenging year but our boys still managed to achieve some fantastic feats. Luke Camerer played A team basketball and also represented the U16A hockey XI. Dylan van Tonder played U15A sevens and water polo. Nicholas Smithers represented the first water polo team and obtained an 85% aggregate. William Ridl played U15A water polo and was recognised as the most valuable rugby player in his age group at the annual rugby dinner. Simon Bailes played U16A basketball and was top five in the Block while also being the captain of the Junior Marimba Band. Stefan Moolman played U15A rugby and tennis. This is a group with immense potential and have proved to be a very strong team of young men. Our C Block group was an extremely talented year with a number of provincial representatives. They have shown spectacular growth throughout the year and C Block journey was a large contributor to this maturation because as much as it is a daunting undertaking, we always return as better men. Luke Davidson played U16A rugby and also went with the Sharks to Grant Khomo Week. Luke also played for the first water polo team. Ben Harper represented KwaZulu-Natal for squash. Stewart Neilson finished second in the Dusi Canoe Marathon. Matt Asherson played U16A basketball. Kyle Tissier played U16A soccer while Anesu Nduru represented both the first and provincial squash teams. As the work starts to pile up and the pressure begins to mount, B Blockers are faced with a challenging and very important year. This year’s B Blockers have navigated the challenge with success in all spheres. I am proud of how far they have come and am happy to leave Founders in their hands next year. Adriaan Moolman represented the first sevens team. Harrison Field finished in the top 80 overall in the Fish River Canoe Marathon. Graham Wynne played first team sevens and squash. Tom Griffin represented the first hockey XI and scored 100 during the cricket season. Campbell Ridl played at first team level for water polo, sevens (as captain), and rugby and also went on to play for the Academy Week XV. Campbell was called up to the KwaZulu-Natal U19A water polo team. Gqamile Mbuyazi

achieved 90% for his grade 8 Jazz exam and was the vice leader of the Competition Marimba Band. This year’s A Blockers made sure that they gave it their all in their final months at Michaelhouse. Our time here has been nothing short of unbelievable and we have created bonds that will last a lifetime. Diego Fernandes played first team basketball while Jaden Anderson represented the seconds for both rugby and cricket. Tom Jonsson played second team tennis and was named the most improved player. James Asherson played for the second cricket XI and captained the first golf team. Joshua Kirsten vice-captained first cricket XI. Tom De Lange played first team squash and rugby and went on to represent KwaZulu-Natal at Craven Week, receiving honours for rugby in recognition of this achievement. He was named the most valuable player of the season at the rugby awards dinner, and also represented the first sevens team. Kamo Rathepe played first XI cricket, captained both the first hockey XI and the second soccer XI. Kamo also represented the KwaZulu-Natal U18A hockey team which went on to achieve a bronze medal at the IPT. This year was a success in terms of House events, winning three inter-House competitions in senior tug-o-war, the quiz and drama. As we say goodbye to the man who has had a very significant impact on Founders I would like to thank Mr Forword for all the wisdom that he has shared with every boy who has passed through Founders during his tenure. We all appreciate everything that he has done for us, transforming us into men and ensuring that every boy has been made to feel at home and accepted. He has added great value to Founders and to Michaelhouse, and will be missed. My time in Founders has been absolutely remarkable. I will always remember the memories that were shared within these special walls. Leaving this place is not going to be easy but I’m forever grateful to those who made it a meaningful journey and I’m proud to say that I am a man of Founders.
