ceived by our boys. Societies such as the Debating Society and Toastmasters are flourishing and are important in the overall development of our boys and their preparation for life. The Transformation and Diversity Advisory Committee contin ues to meet regularly, and the boys consider how to bridge gaps – real or perceived – and offer thoughtful advice to our Execu tive Committee. Once again, Michaelhouse was listed by two publications as being among the top schools in the world. Spears and Carfax Education both acknowledged the international standing of Michaelhouse, whereas Steer, an organization which seeks to monitor and support mental health in UK schools and organi zations such as the Chelsea Football Club, awarded our school the epithet of Champion School of the Year. Sadly, at the end of the year, we bade farewell on retirement to Mrs Glynis Owen, a mathematics teacher of the highest or der, to Mrs Mary McMichael, a much-respected English teach er whose appreciation of the nuance of the English language

made her exceptional in the classroom, and to Mr Brendan Gittins, whose powerful impact as Deputy Rector: Pupils was a significant factor in guiding the boys to successful outcomes over the course of the year. Brendan moves on to be the head master of Jeppe High School for Boys where he will, no doubt, be very successful. The Rector-elect, Mr Bart Wielenga, was able to join us in Durban, the Midlands and in Johannesburg over a few days in September to meet parents and Old Boys preparatory to his arrival in July 2026. In the meantime, Mrs Win de Wet is ready to act as Rector for the first six months of 2026, and I have little doubt that she will do so with aplomb. As I take leave of Michaelhouse after seven years, my sincere thanks go to all the parents, Old Boys, friends of the school and members of the Board who have supported me over those years. Brigitte and I will be forever honoured to have played a role in steering this wonderful school and my warmest good wishes go to all who care for Michaelhouse and who under stand its unique qualities and nature.

A tribute to Antony and Brigitte Clark for an exceptional term of office which has been profoundly positive for Michaelhouse. This song written by Gareth Dry was performed by the boys in a moving farewell Chapel service as well as a gala dinner that followed, and paid tribute to a significant man and job very well done.
