being an excellent deflection from Camerer, but the damage was done. After a successful Coastal Cup, we had a short break before heading to St Alban’s in Pretoria for the Independent Schools Hockey Festival. In our second game against Bishops, one slip in our press was punished with a top-quality goal straight from a 16. From there, it was all Michaelhouse – wave after wave of attack. We equalised through a penalty stroke after Simukonda was brought down in the circle, but we couldn’t find the winner.

It was a draw that felt like a loss. Credit to Bishops for taking their chance and defending superbly. Convincing wins over York and St Andrew’s – with goals from Frost, Love and Gilson – meant we went into our final ISHF match needing a win to wrap up both tours with seven wins, one draw and just one loss from nine games – and that’s ex actly what we did. Our last game against St Benedict’s is one to be remembered
