The 2025 Chronicle

Saturday Park Runs remained a firm fixture in our calendar and offered a welcome break from campus life. These runs provide an opportunity for our athletes to enjoy a relaxed yet invigorat ing outing, keeping fitness levels high while fostering communi ty spirit beyond school grounds. Beyond school fixtures and Park Runs, our boys tackled trail and road challenges with impressive results. At the Balgowan Trail Run, Riley van Schoor and Nicholas French claimed first and sec ond in the U18 6km race, and Daniel French topped the U18 category in the 11km event. Griffon Erasmus secured first in the U16, and Ivan Nel dominated the 21km U18 division. Newcomer Callum Baird also impressed at the Karkloof Challenge, complet ing the 17km course in an exceptional one hour and 20 minutes. Our captain, Daniel French, deserves special thanks for his leadership and for fostering a strong sense of team spirit

throughout the season. He writes: “Leaving Michaelhouse, I am glad I was able to make so many fond memories through cross-country. For me, the highlight of this season was the early morning runs, jumping into the dam, and the weekend Piggly Wiggly runs followed by a team breakfast. Cross-coun try is a sport that boys take with them after school, where Old Boys’ runs are shared and tracked on Strava. I am happy to say that running has been a highlight of my school career and will continue to shape how I stay healthy, connect with others and maintain relationships beyond school. As captain for 2025, I am proud to be part of this group of men.” As we reflect on the season we celebrate not only the races run but the values that help define Michaelhouse: perseverance, teamwork and a love for the outdoors. We also have some ex citing initiatives lined up that will take the sport to the next level in 2026. Here’s to another year of running towards excellence.
