The 2025 Chronicle

we repeated with even greater authority later in the season at the prestigious St David’s Marist, Inanda, tournament. Those two triumphs over one of the country’s strongest programmes underlined just how far the team had come. Through every challenge, the players never lost faith in themselves or each other. The growth from term one to term four was remarkable, and the platform they have built for future seasons is rock sol id. This was a year that taught us how to win – not just on the scoreboard but in character, resilience and belief. The crowning achievement came on the final Saturday of the term. Michaelhouse delivered a performance of breathtaking quality to record a superb victory over St Charles – one of our oldest and fiercest rivals – in the last fixture of the year. It was the perfect way to close the campaign: clinical, physical and played with the confidence of a side that was starting to come of age together. This group of young men embodied everything we strive for in Michaelhouse basketball – courage under pres sure, respect for the opposition, and an unbreakable team spir it. The captain led with distinction, while the coaching trio of Mr Mthalane, Mr Ngcobo and Mr Dubazana drew performances from the squad that exceeded even our highest expectations. As I reflect on my final season as Master in Charge, I do so with profound pride and gratitude. The first team did not merely win matches; they represented the school with class, and left the programme stronger, deeper and more ambitious than ever before.
