The 2025 Chronicle
significant when considering these teams faced the best teams in the country on a weekly basis throughout the course of the season. These A teams also managed to secure some of their highest placings in national tournaments ever. The season ended in spectacular fashion as the Michaelhouse first team fought back from 5-10 down at half-time versus a highly rated Hilton College side, in front of packed grandstands of supporters, to ultimately win 11-10. The stands erupted, and for the seven A Block leavers, this signified both their last game in the red and white of Michaelhouse as well as their first age group win over Hilton in their five years at Michaelhouse. A selection of significant moments from the past year are listed below. • Twelve Michaelhouse water polo players were selected into various KZN teams, which was a vast improvement on the representation seen in recent years. • The Michaelhouse U15 Snow Cup tournament was a huge success, and we will look to grow this further in the years ahead. • As an E Blocker, Edward Mvulana was selected as an offici ator for the national IPT tournament in Gauteng. Mitch Rog ers, in D Block, represented the SA Men’s U15 water polo team. And Elliott Springate, B Block, attended the Currie Cup as well as other senior tournaments as part of various KZN men’s teams. The Michaelhouse water polo community stands united in cele brating the achievements, strength and progression witnessed throughout the 2025 season. As we conclude this chapter, we proudly recognize the indomitable spirit and unwavering com mitment of our staff, boys and parents, who continue to propel Michaelhouse water polo to greater heights.

TEAM FEEDBACK Mr Lucas-Bull and his first-team troops began their season in October 2024. Much was expected of this cohort, as they had developed from a young team in 2023/24 into an experienced unit by 2025. At the annual St Stithians Stayers tournament the team produced several inspiring results, such as their nar row loss to St John’s College, the eventual bronze medallists. The season continued with many promising performances; however, the team did not always capitalise on strong starts, costing them a few other significant victories. Despite missing a few key players, the team had a phenomenal Clifton tour nament. Their win over perennial forerunners SACS (the only known victory over this team to date) stands out as a highlight of the campaign. Due to the dates of the KZN Top 10 Tourna ment in 2025, our stayers team competed and faced the full strength first sides of our competitor schools, resulting in a disappointing and unrepresentative seventh-place finish. The A Block group, led by captain Keagan Elliott, had never beaten Hilton at age-group level, making it a fitting end to their time at Michaelhouse when they staged a dramatic comeback in front of packed home grandstands. They overturned a 5-10 deficit to clutch the game 11-10 at the death. This was a sig
