Broke the U16 25m butterfly record at the Howick Invitational Gala. • Midmar Mile: Tane Greene (24:30) and Oliver Guy (24:32) followed Kyle Heyns home in strong times. • KZN Schools Swimming Trials: Leruo Sento, Nathan Cochran and Jack Ralfe were also selected to compete. The Michaelhouse swimming team concluded a memorable season with outstanding individual performances and a signifi cant team improvement at the Top 10 Gala. INTERHOUSE GALA The Interhouse Gala is always one of the most eagerly antici pated events on the school calendar. This year’s gala certain ly lived up to expectations as the swimming season burst into life with a thrilling and fiercely contested afternoon of racing, House spirit and outstanding performances in the pool. The boys displayed tremendous determination, skill and com petitive spirit in the pool, while passionate House support from the sidelines created an electric atmosphere. Every race was hotly contested, with swimmers pushing themselves to the limit and producing outstanding performances for their Houses. The excitement continued right through to the final relay, with the competition so close that the top three Houses were separated by just five points. In a dramatic finish, East claimed third place with 329 points, Tatham finished narrowly ahead in second with 332 points, and Farfield emerged victorious with 334 points. It was a superb start to the swimming season and an encouraging display of talent, teamwork and House pride from all involved.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS Several boys delivered outstanding performances during the season, with two swimmers, Bandile Mahaye and Kyle Heyns, dominating the U14 and U17 age groups at the interhouse gala, collectively breaking nine records. Kyle Heyns had a stellar season, achieving notable success in various competitions: • UTHUKELA CHAMPS MEET: swam a personal best in the 100m butterfly, which qualified him for the SA National Junior Swimming Championships. • HOWICK INVITATIONAL GALA: broke the U17 records for both freestyle and butterfly. • MIDMAR MILE: the first Michaelhouse boy home, finishing 40th overall (39th in his category) with a time of 23:04. • KZN SCHOOLS SWIMMING TRIALS: captured three gold medals (50m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle) and a bronze (100m butterfly). • Represented Zimbabwe at the Africa Aquatics Junior Championships in Egypt and the African Union Sports Council Region 5 U20 Youth Games in Namibia. Bandile Mahaye also had a remarkable season, particularly in the U14 age group: • USHAKA CHAMPS MEET (RICHARDS BAY): won five gold medals (50m butterfly, 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle) and one silver (50m backstroke). • HOWICK INVITATIONAL GALA: broke the U14 records for freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and 25m butterfly. • KZN SCHOOLS SWIMMING TRIALS: secured four gold medals (100m butterfly, 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle) and was the first U14 in the U14/U15 200m freestyle. • SUPER SEALS ANNUAL GALA IN BLOEMFONTEIN: four gold medals (200m individual medley, 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle) and two bronze medals (100m breaststroke, 100m back stroke), with personal-best times in four events. • NATIONAL JUNIOR AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIP (CAPE TOWN, 25-29 APRIL): gold for 50m butterfly, with a personal best of 27.35; gold for 100m freestyle; gold for 4x50m freestyle relay; silver for 50m freestyle; silver for 100m butterfly, with a personal best of 1:02.92; silver for 4x100m freestyle relay; bronze for 50m backstroke; bronze for 4x100m medley relay. OTHER RECORD BREAKERS AND KEY PERFORMERS • Samuel Gilson. Selected for the KZN Schools Swimming Trials, where he won gold in the 200m individual medley, silver in both the 100m and 50m breaststroke, and bronze in the U14/U15 200m breaststroke (first U14). These results secured him selection for the KZN Swimming team, which competed in Bloemfontein. • Matt Shannon. Broke the U15 25m butterfly record at the Howick Invitational Gala.
