The Snell Society was founded by Rector Antony Clark who chose to name it after the highly regarded former Rector Snell who

The programme runs from mid-year to mid-year, starting with B Block boys in July who complete their year by June in A Block.

The society aims to give Michaelhouse boys the opportunity to research a topic of their own interest and choosing. Ideally his topic should require him to take and defend a position. Each boy has a chance to present his topic to the group during one of the twice-quarterly meetings, whereafter the other boys are given the opportunity to question and challenge him. While staff and other boys are welcome at all meetings of the Snell Society, only the members are invited for refreshments at the Rectory at the conclusion of each meeting. The Snell Society forms part of our academic enrichment programme while also giving boys valuable experience for interviewing for applica tion to the world’s leading universities where such presenta tions are often required. The quality of the boys’ talks in 2025 was simply outstanding, making for highly stimulating and entertaining meetings.
