In each, the learning is categorised according to three topics:

Performance (topic 1), Music Literacy (topic 2), and General Knowledge and Analysis of Music (topic 3). The boys are expected to complete a portfolio of work by the end of each year in the senior phase. This includes two written examinations, a practical examination, as well as performance- based tasks, and a portfolio of research and composition tasks. In E Block two groups of 40 pupils (80 per year) each spent a semester exploring the three topics, and in D Block two groups of 16 and 22 pupils (40 per year) spent the year exploring the three topics in more depth. In C Block there were three boys, in B Block two boys, and in A Block nine boys. Co-curricularly, 125 boys took individual music lessons. Nine ensembles afforded boys with different interests the opportunity to be involved in making music on a social level.
