The 2023 Chronicle

Typically, D Block boys find the year troublesome and, as a group, can be hard to manage; however, the group this year was mature and diligent and played a vital role at Founders. Their relationship with the E Block was great, and their bond will continue to grow. Although they have spent only two years in the House, they still have shown great confidence and must be commended for the effort they have put into the House and some of the results they have achieved. Cameron Schwegmann played U16A basketball, first team basketball and made the provincial side. Graydon Leslie played U15A cricket and U16A hockey, also playing for the provincial side in hockey. Being in the final year at Michaelhouse has many perks as you are at the top of your school, and you finally feel like you have got somewhere in your school career. A Block is one of the best years at Michaelhouse, and this current A Block group has made memories that will last forever. With the increased stress of exams and tests, it can become tough but, overall, you feel at home. This year I feel we have left a legacy to the House and the entire school. I am saddened to be leaving a great group of boys but equally excited to see what happens in the future. Thomas Griffin had a few caps for first team cricket, and I played first team water polo. Graham Wynne and I played first team rugby and I played provincially. Graham, Adriaan Moolman and I were part of the 7s team that went on tour to Rugby School in England and managed to win the tournament. Thomas also played first team hockey, Edrich van Loggerenberg captained first team athletics, and Harrison Field finished the Fish River Canoe Marathon. Culturally, Seb Bailes was in the Choir; Gqamile Mbuyasi played for the Jazz Band, Orchestra and Competition Marimba Band for his fourth year; he also contributed to the school theatre productions, playing some of the main characters. Academically, Sebastian Bailes was consistently in the top 10. As I prepare to bid farewell to Founders, I am filled with gratitude and nostalgia for the memories we’ve created within these walls. Founders has been more than just a building; it has been a home, a sanctuary and a community where friendships have flourished and dreams have taken root. I want to extend my deepest thanks to everyone who has been a part of my journey here. To my fellow residents, thank you for the laughter, the late-night chats and the unwavering support. Each of you has brought a unique light to this House, and I am grateful for the bond we’ve shared. junior and senior marimba bands, the Junior Jazz Band, the Orchestra and the Vocal Ensemble. C Block is a close-knit, diverse group of boys in Founders who have flourished throughout the year. This is always an exciting and adventurous year at school, with each member of the grade really finding their feet and adding value to the House; they have truly come into their own. They have survived the difficult C Block Journey, put in a lot of effort in the classroom, and excelled on the sports field.

William Ridl, Stefan Moolman and Dylan van Tonder all played U16A rugby, with William and Stefan both playing for the KZN Grant Khomo team. In 7s, Dylan played second team and William and Stefan played first team, with William making the U17 Sharks side. Simon Bailes played for the second team basketball and Agang Magang played U16A. Academically, Simon was placed first in the grade in term one and stayed in the top five throughout the year. Culturally, he played for the Competition Marimba Band, and went on exchange to Chile and Argentina, which was a character building experience for him. During B Block there is an increased workload and a great deal of pressure when participating in open sports. But the B Block boys have had a great year overall, succeeding in so many of their endeavours. This year they have grown into men, have accepted accountability and have been a pleasure to work with
