e were given the opportunity to go on exchange to a school called Christ Church Grammar School in Perth, Australia. During our 10-week stint we were able to contribute to the sports at Christ Church, with William playing school cricket as well as club cricket in his spare time, and Rhys joining the rowing club. We got the opportunity to experience the wild side of Australia by participating in their outdoor education programme in the rural bush south of Perth. We also got the chance to visit Sydney for a week and stay with friends and family while the boys at Christ Church did their exams. We then had the opportunity to go on Christ Church’s equivalent of our C Block Journey, called Venture. We hiked along beaches, trails and 4x4 tracks, and paddled across lagoons and rivers in a place called Walpole, which followed the Bibbulmun Track. It was truly a great experience as we got to know our new friends better and saw the unique and beautiful landscape of Australia. On our trip to Sydney we had the opportunity to go to the well known Bondi Beach. We walked along the cliff path all the way to a beach called Bronte. We found some amazing art pieces along the way. We particularly enjoyed a certain piece, which was a man balancing a big glass globe on his head. During our time in Sydney we took a ferry from where we were staying to Circular Quay, which was perfect for viewing the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. It was fascinating seeing these beautiful tourist attractions. These events are just a glimpse into our exchange, which we were so fortunate to be able to experience. We have made some life-long friends and built memories that have helped us grow as individuals in all spheres of life. All of this would not be possible without Mrs McMichael, Mr Dippenaar, Mr Saggers, our hosts and, lastly, our parents, whom we would like to thank for making this exchange possible and giving us this wonderful opportunity.

e are honoured to have had the opportunity to represent Michaelhouse at Woodberry Forest School in Virginia, USA. It has been a privilege to engage in this life-changing exchange. Thank you to Michaelhouse and especially Mrs McMichael, Mr Dippenaar and Mr Ngcobo for entrusting us with this significant responsibility. The night before a big American football game marks the night before Woodberry’s version of red-black. It involves a roaring 10m bonfire, the war-cry team and Woodberry students dressed up, all partaking in a prep rally. At Maryland College we got to watch the Maryland versus Penn State game. A 500-man army band from both sides as well as 52,000 spectators were present at this college game. A lively atmosphere of keychains being shaken at fourth down, cheerleaders on the sides of the field and a huge win from Penn State all made this an unforgettable game. In Washington DC lies the spectacular National Mall with famous buildings, such as the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, showcasing America’s history. This trip, along with a guided tour of America’s greatest monuments, was part of Woodberry’s programme to show exchange students every part of American culture. Daniel had the privilege of visiting the Wright brothers museum, which captures the birthplace of flight. Exploring historic sites like aeronautic and space museums and the Wright brothers’ original airstrip was a remarkable experience. Woodberry Forest provided amazing opportunities for the exchange students to immerse themselves in the culture of the US. During our stay we engaged in activities such as goose hunting, using school-issued pump shotguns, and football matches, where we played as a linebackers. Additionally, the Halloween parties, with costume contests and trick-or-treating, added to our time at Woodberry Forest.

Biggest gratitude from Down Under for looking after the boys. Another extraordinary experience to add to Gus’ 6 month

itinerary of SA. It truly has been a trip of a lifetime. Thank you any and all who played a part. We are forever grateful for the extreme hospitality! Juliet Petersen, via Facebook
