Nelson Mandela said: “Do not judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.” he 2023 team formed a tight-knit group of passionate and dedicated boys, each showcasing exceptional skills. Their commitment was evident during an off
season that started in September 2022, featuring rigorous 5am running sessions. A cultural shift towards year-round training is emerging among the top teams, emphasizing the impracticality of beginning preparations just four weeks before the season. This season unfolded as a series of closely contested matches. The team participated in 14 matches, securing only three victories, and enduring 11 losses, including a challenging losing streak that proved elusive to overcome. The story of the season is the profligacy in front of goal. Good defence was never rewarded by converting scoring opportunities in the opposition D. As with 2022, the squad had to endure concession of late goals after competing and often dominating their matches. The experience of playing two Pretoria schools was intriguing as that province plays at a pace much higher than in KZN and is perhaps a view to work towards.
